Where do I find my first 10 customers?

A practical first-customer plan for a homegrown business.

By SimpleyReviewed August 2026

Your first customers usually come from clarity and direct conversations, not from trying every marketing channel at once.

Start with people who have a reason to care

Make a list of 20 people or small communities who may genuinely need what you offer. Include past customers, neighbours, colleagues where appropriate, local groups, and people who already show interest in the category.

Do not send the same vague announcement to everyone. Explain what you are offering, who it is for, and ask a simple question.

Use the simplest channel

WhatsApp may be enough for a first conversation. Instagram may help people discover the product. A website can come later when it solves a real problem such as repeated orders, trust, or catalogue management.

The channel matters less than learning why someone buys, hesitates, or recommends you.

Your action

Contact 20 likely customers this week. Track who responds, what they ask, what they buy, and what stops them. Those conversations are more valuable than a reach number by itself.

Your next stepMake a list of 20 likely customers and contact them with a specific offer or question.
